In 7th and 8th grade, students are offered a choice between American Sign Language (ASL), Spanish, and World Languages.
In ASL and Spanish, they begin a journey of learning how to communicate in the target language. In ASL, students practice the various skills necessary to communicate in sign, as well as study the culture and history of the Deaf community. In Spanish, students practice the various skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. These two years of world language study prepare students for high school, where they will be recommended to continue at either level one or two.
World Languages is a new offering for the 2013-14 school year. In this class, students will be exploring different cultures throughout the world through reading, videos, and investigation. They will be learning about the foods, important people, traditions, and languages of people around the globe.
Students may also take a Spanish Enrichment class in which students intensify their study of Spanish and will be recommended to continue at level two or three at the high school.
