In 7th and 8th grade, students are offered a choice between American Sign Language (ASL) and Spanish. Students in the DLI program may also choose French.
In French, ASL and Spanish, students begin a journey of learning how to communicate in the target language. In ASL, students practice the various skills necessary to communicate in sign, as well as study the culture and history of the Deaf community. In Spanish, students practice the various skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. These two years of world language study prepare students for high school, where they will be recommended to continue at either level one or two.
